New in Beauty: 5 Products I've Been Loving This Summer
Here’s a confession: I love makeup. I browse Sephora online at least three times a week, I pop into Ulta at least once a week, and I make new beauty purchases literally all the time. I know the blog is more fashion based (*cough* Harry Styles based *cough*), and I’ve only had a few beauty posts here and there, but honestly I enjoy beauty and I feel like we’re about due for another post eh?
This is going to be all about the beauty products I’ve been using throughout the summer that I’ve loved. Coincidentally, all of the products are new to me. Not necessarily new on the market, but rather just products that are new to my everyday routine. Honestly, I try new things all the time so it takes a lot for me to want to re-purchase the product after using it up. With that in mind, I’ll let you know which products I’m keeping in my routine and which ones I’ll be rotating out once I’ve used it up.
Shall we crack on?
I use a rich, anti-aging eye cream at night and prior to purchasing the Youth to the People one, I was using one from Belief. It was a great product, but I wasn’t wowed by it, so I decided to try something else. I wanted something a bit more natural and I had heard great things about YTTP as a whole and so I went with this. That being said, I LOVE IT. It’s got the perfect amount of richness to it, sinks into the skin quite nicely, and you get a healthy amount in the pot at .5 ounces (you really don’t need tons of this stuff.) The only thing that may be off-putting to some people is the smell; it’s got aloe and kale in and it smells of it. I’m not bothered by it (nor do I see any reaction on my skin) but just be wary if you’re sensitive to smells.
I’ve got quite oily skin and --as you can imagine-- in the summer it is so much worse. But, I also find that hydration is important for my skin in terms of looking balanced and healthy so I use two primers instead of just one all over the face (extra I know) and --after finishing up the Boots No7 Airbrush Away Pore Minimising Primer (wasn’t my favorite)-- I decided to give the S&G one a go. I like it, but it doesn’t blur the pores quite as well as I would like, especially the large and noticeable ones on my cheeks. I think once I finish up this tube I WON’T BE repurchasing it and instead will try out something new. I hear the Tatcha Silk Canvas calling my name!
Now that I’m older, I’ve been looking for a vitamin C serum to add to my skincare regimen. Vitamin C serum has a number of beneficial skin properties; speeding up the healing process (great for me as I easily scar from acne), protects skin from sun damage, and keeps skin looking young as it speeds up collagen production. I stumbled upon SkinKissed via Instagram and decided to give it a go and so far, I’VE BEEN LOVING IT. I’ve only added it to my nighttime routine (you can use it in the day, but be sure you use adequate sunscreen over it) right before my moisturizer. SkinKissed is a sticky formula but that dissipates once it’s properly smoothed into the skin. Once I’ve used the bottle (20 mils of product) I’ll report back on whether I’ve seen any drastic changes in my skin.
To continue on the anti-aging front, the moisturizer that I usually use at night is rich and anti-aging. For the longest, I was using the Boots No7 Early Defence Night Cream, which I re-purchased three times, and honestly, I really love that moisturizer, but I was itching to try something new and so I picked up this Pacifica moisturizer on my last Ulta trip. At the minute, I’m ON THE FENCE about this product; it’s not quite as rich as I would like but it does have such a silky feel to it and it sinks into the skin almost instantly. It doesn’t break me out, which is great, but there’s something about it that isn’t wowing me. But also, it’s an anti-aging cream, I won’t know if it’s truly worked until thirty years from now right?!
After using up my Milani Brow Shaping Clear Wax Pencil, I was again on the hunt for a brow wax to use before filling in my brows. I use an eyeshadow to fill in my brows (the middle shade in the NYX Escape with Rico trio) and using a wax before starting the process really ensures that the powder doesn’t wear away throughout the day and shows up more boldly. The Milani one worked fine but was a bit stiff so I turned to the brow experts -- ABH. This product is GREAT; it’s a soft wax that doesn’t leave any residue behind and creates the perfect base for the eyeshadow to cling to. Ten out of ten, would recommend!
And that wraps up my five new beauty products I’ve been loving. If you want to hear more thoughts about some of these products, I popped up a short video over on IGTV. Does anyone watch IGTV?!
Now... on to the bit of the blog that has nothing to do with the rest of the post...
So, if you don't follow me on Twitter, you probably don't know that I've started watching Love Island. I follow a lot of British people on Twitter (and have a lot of British followers) so not only do I already know who won the series, but I've been hearing about this show for absolute yonks and I no way to watch it because I live in Los Angeles.
Fortunately, Hulu came through and the entire series is on the streaming service and it's just as entertaining as all of the Brits made it out to be. I'm currently on episode 30 and my biggest *gasp* moments have been the Wes and Laura breakup and the Josh re-coupling. There are 57 episodes in the season so I've still got a ways to go, but I've seriously been considering applying to Love Island.
They're literally living my dream; waking up and wearing a new swimsuit everyday whilst lounging around staring at hot boys on a Spanish island. Yeah, I'll take it.
You don't have to be British to be on the show do you?!
SO WHAT’S NEXT?!
Next week I’ll be bringing you another outfit post that will probably wrap up the summer content here on this blog, as we’ll be moving to September and more fall content will happen. I will probably round out the month of August with either an August Wins or an August Favorites post and the first Sunday in September will bring another outfit post, if everything goes to plan. Oh, and I'll update you on my Love Island thoughts along the way if I haven't binged it all. Fingers crossed!
